Sega Japan teases a mini Genesis coming later in 2018 - 'Mega Drive Mini' hasn't been announced for the US or Europe.

Sega Japan teases a mini Genesis coming later in 2018 - 'Mega Drive Mini' hasn't been announced for the US or Europe.

Along with the rereleases of Shenmue I & II, Sega also showed off its own attempt at retro console loaded with classic games. While knockoff Genesis systems have been easy to find, the success of Nintendo's miniaturized NES and SNES may have pushed Sega to get serious about nostalgia. MegaDrive Mini is apparently just a tentative name, but it's also timed to arrive for the system's 30th anniversary. So far Sega's social media and PR for Europe and Japan are quiet on the subject, but if we find out any more details we'll let you know.

'Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery' hits your phone April 25th - It has some pretty famous voices attached, too.

Warner Bros. announced its Harry Potter mobile game last December, promising that we'd all be able to experience life as a Hogwarts student, going to classes and interacting with the well-known professors in the magical school. Now Jam City, the mobile publisher tasked with making the game itself, has revealed that Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery will be available April 25th. It will also include some very famous voices reprising their roles as teachers of magic.

The actors from the Harry Potter films include Dame Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall), Michael Gambon (Professor Dumbledore), Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick), Sally Mortemore (Madam Irma Pince), Gemma Jones (Madam Pomfrey) and Zoe Wanamaker (Madam Hooch). No mention of the three younger principal actors, unfortunately.

In Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, you'll be able to create your own Hogwart's student in the game, attend classes, learn magic and form friendships (or create rivalries) with other students. There's even an "encounter system" where your decisions and actions impact your quests, allowing you to create your own witch or wizard legacy within the story arc.

36 teams are joining the ‘Clash Royale’ eSports league - 'Clash Royale' league adds squads from Cloud9, FNATIC and other top eSports organizations.

Today, mobile game company Supercell announced that teams from 36 organizations from around the world will be added to the hit (and very, very lucrative) title Clash Royale's eSports league. The biggest names in competitive gaming will field squads, including Cloud9, Team SoloMid, Immortals, NRG, Complexity, Team Dignitas and Counter Logic Gaming.

If you haven't heard of the game, chances are one of your gaming friends has -- after all, over 27 million players from around the world competed in the title's open-to-all Crown Championship last August to qualify for the 16-person finals in December. For this year's league expansion, Supercell again opened up to the public, and an in-game event drew 25 million players to qualify for teams.

Teams will fill region-specific slots, with Cloud9, Team SoloMid and the other American organizations making up the eight North American teams. (FNATIC, Misfits and Team Liquid are among the Europeans joining, while EDG.M, GO, JDG will represent mainland China and CJ OGN, Sandbox, Kingzone will play for the general Asia division.)They'll have to field players from the aforementioned League Challenge, and teams will compete for a $1 million prize later this year.

The teams in China's division have already started their initial Spring season, which runs from March 23rd to June 3rd. Later in the year, squads in the Asia region will play from April 27th to July 14th. Other divisions (including Latin America, which doesn't have a list of participating organizations yet) will compete in fall for a winter 2018 global championship.

Acer's Nitro 5 gaming laptop now packs a six-core Intel processor - Portable gaming just became more practical.

Acer's Nitro 5 gaming laptop has never been particularly remarkable outside of its price, but you might have reason to sit up and take notice after today. The PC builder is launching a version of the 15.6-inch portable with options for shiny new six-core Intel Core i7+ processors. If you're playing CPU-heavy games or need some extra power for video editing, this might fit the bill without crushing your bank account.

Beyond that, the design is familiar -- although that's not entirely a bad thing. There's both Intel Optane memory and NVMe-based solid-state storage (up to 512GB) to speed up load times, and GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics give you a modest amount of power for 3D games.

The refreshed Nitro 5 hits North America in May at $749 (€799 in Europe), although it's safe to say you won't be getting a Core i7+ at that price when there are more pedestrian processor options (including regular Core i7 chips) available. Regardless, this might reach your short list if you're looking for a down-to-Earth gaming machine with a little more power than usual.

'No Man's Sky' comes to Xbox this summer alongside huge update - Developer Hello Games says 'Next' is the game's biggest update yet.

No Man's Sky is coming to Xbox One this summer and it's bringing a massive update, called "Next", with it. It's so massive, in fact, that it's even got its own logo. There's no word on what it'll include, but previous updates Foundation, Pathfinder and Atlas Rises all drastically built upon the scope of the game, so you can expect significant additions. Speaking to Kotaku, game founder Sean Murray said Next will be "by far our biggest update so far."

Its arrival to Xbox One includes the initial release and all three major updates since, plus enhancements for Xbox One X and support for HDR and 4K. Fans of the game during its exclusive PC and PS4 days have been vocal about their disappointment with previous updates (which to the credit of developer Hello Games have always been free -- and substantial). Perhaps Next and the roll-out to Xbox will win back some hearts and minds.
